We all have good intentions when it comes to saving money but we also know it's hard! As we've all seen on social media these last few months, people are struggling while waiting to get called back in to work. While many have had a reprieve this last week, I thought I'd lend some ideas to my top 10 ways we started saving money FAST.
Move your bank accounts to the bank that offers the most perks or rewards. We moved everything to a bank that gives rewards 💲 every month based on the amount you have in your account. So as you're saving your money using these ideas I have, you can also be making money while saving money!😉
Turn off the TV. This one was not well received by my family!😂 You see...my family are movie and TV series freaks....yes I said FREAKS! Every dinner discussion is one movie line after another and yes, it usually takes me a few to even recognize that they are just having conversations with movie quotes! So we compromised.🤼♀️ Bob called the TV provider and got a HUGE deal! Note to all: If you call back once a year they will re-cut you the best deal they can. Who knew?🤷♀️🤷
Quit hoarding and start purging! Go through your closets, cupboards, drawers, garages, attics....Have fun with it!!! I have to admit, I have to have my daughters with me when I do this.🙈 I tend to keep things because of my emotional attachment so they keep me grounded. You can have garage sales, post for sale on social media or do what we did and start an on line auction site where most items start at $1 or $2. It's affordable for others AND ITS FUN!!!
Write a list before shopping and STICK WITH IT!!! I know I'm BAD at going to pick up a loaf of bread and coming home with a $200 bill
Play games with your spouse and kids that don't cost money!! Instead of going to the movies and dinner, stay home and play a game of cards or take turns playing everyone's favorite board game.
Drink more water! In most households this would be a huge savings. Not only does drinking plenty of water have great health benefits — it has financial benefits, too. Drink a big glass of water before each meal in order to stay fuller longer and ultimately eat less. Not only will you save on the food bill, but you’ll also feel better after you become properly hydrated. You'll also save 💲 not drinking soda....water is free. 😉
Turn the lights off! Turn off lights any time you leave your house – or even when you leave the room. Turning off lights when you have plenty of natural sunlight can also help keep your electric bill down over time. The bottom line: If you aren’t using a light, turn it off.
Make your own gifts instead of buying stuff from the store. My girls are terrific at this, but me not so much. They can make or sew anything and their ideas are amazing and thoughtful!❤❤❤❤
Shop for new auto and/or home insurance. Just like your TV subscription, you'd be amazed at how much cheaper you can get your insurance when you are getting quotes!!! This is another yearly event that should happen!
Eat at home instead of eating out. I know it's nice to eat out once in a while, but eating at home and planning for it saves LOTS of money!
